That being said, I'm happy with the two-year program. The work at teacher's college is much more practical than during your undergrad which makes it seem fluffy, but you take what you put into it. I also can't believe how they used to do the 1-year program because I am crazy busy with courses for the 2-year program. I'm going into second year and will have 11 courses during the school year. The two year program has many advantages.
The number one being you get more experience in the classroom from the extra practicums. There is a standard number set by the Ontario College of Teachers, but some teacher's colleges have programs that will give you more than the minimum number of weeks required. It is true that it is often a long road to becoming a full-time permanent teacher. You have to get on the supply list first, then apply for contracts, then apply for full-time and it is all based on seniority.
